Happy Halloween

Lots of creepiness abounds if you look hard enough.  I, personally, am going to the BSharps/English Beat show.  FYI there is a DUI Checkpoint tonight in Riverside – location unknown.  Be safe and sane.  Happy Halloween!!!

Gas Prices under $3

leave a comment »

Honestly, I thought gas prices would go from $4 to $3.50 and stop there and everyone would be thrilled that they were lower.  Thankfully, I was completely wrong and yesterday we paid $2.93 a gallon (at Thrify on Magnolia and 14th – you know the one).  Now, I’m thinking that prices will hang out around $3 and we’ll be thrilled that they are lower 😉

** Update ** Gas was $2.81 at the Arco at De Anza and Central. Yay for being wrong (maybe?)

Early Voting until Monday

leave a comment »

There will be early voting at the Registrar of Voters Office (2724 Gateway Dr.) until next Monday, November 3rd.  Of course, you can still vote at the Office on Election day as well.  You can vote on weekdays from 8 – 5 and on Saturday from 9 – 4.   You can also vote on R.O.V.E.R. the votemobile [cool votemobile schedule mashup].  I love the idea of voting on Election Day but why not vote early?

Bob Ross’ Birthday!

with one comment

Today, October 29th, is Bob Ross‘ birthday.  Bob, as you undoubtedly know, was the famous instructional painter and host of the series “The Joy of Painting”.   If you have never watched a show, look it up or Tivo one and check him out.   One encounter with his kind, patient spirit and you will be a fan too.  I have recently taken up painting again so I celebrate Bob on his birthday today!

Early Voting At The Tyler Galleria

leave a comment »

Between October 18th and 26th, you can vote early at the mall.   This is the perfect time to kill a few birds with one stone.  Avoid the long voting lines on November 4th and vote while you’re going out shopping or for a pint at the YardHouse.  The hours are Monday through Saturday 10 am to 7 pm; and Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm.

Not Too Late to Register!

J,a most assured procrastinator, was delighted to see some very nice women at the Plaza still registering folks to vote. Could it be any closer to the wire?

The ladies have stickers, buttons and happy attitudes. They’ll be there till 6.

Traffic Advisory: 91 Freeway Carpool Lanes Closed in Some Areas

leave a comment »

This weekend, some carpool lanes on the 91 freeway will be closed. Between Friday evening and Sunday morning, eastbound and westbound carpool lanes between Tyler and Magnolia will be closed during construction of the bridge over La Sierra. The two fast lanes in each direction will also be closed. La Sierra Avenue will remain open but drivers are cautioned to use Tyler, Pierce or Magnolia instead.

It gets backed up! J and I were turning left from Magnolia onto La Sierra to head toward the freeway and had to wait through a couple of lights because traffic was so backed up and three lanes were merging into one. Just avoid it!

Presidential Debate #2 Tonight

leave a comment »

Are you going to watch the 2nd Presidential debate tonight?  It starts at 6pm tonight and it’s on… well, it’s on ALL the channels.  I am going to watch it at home, probably texting back and forth with Jessi throughout the entire thing.  If you want to watch it somewhere with fellow supporters or opponents, there are local places to check out.

Obama fans can watch it at Riverside Marriot.  Where are the Riverside McCain supporters going to be tonight?  Rep. Mary Bono will be at the McCain HQ in Temecula for the debate-watching party.

2008 Elections Vice Presidential Debate

leave a comment »

Counting down the minutes to the Vice Presidential Debate.  I hope it is a good debate and we get answers to the tough questions.  I hope its not 90 minutes of discomfort, waiting for gaffes from Palin AND Biden and I hope no one is too easy or too hard on either candidate.  I am looking forward to watching.

Where are the locals watching this?  During last week’s presidential debate, there was a Riverside Obama debate watching party at the Riverside Marriot.  I didn’t see anything for either party this week.

Earthquake Update: 4.1 Earthquake Strikes NE of Yucaipa

with one comment

Did you feel the small-to-moderate earthquake that shook our neighboring San Bernardino County this morning?  The quake struck at 2:41 am and was centered 6 miles NE of Yucaipa.  There weren’t any reports of damage or injuries according to the AP report, but KCAL was interviewing someone who suffered some broken glass.  I didn’t feel a thing.
