Excessive Heat Warning Today

leave a comment »

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the IE today, Friday June 20th, from 11am to 8 pm.  It’s predicted to go up to 107 today in Riverside.  Residents are advised to avoid working outside, drink plenty of water and stay cool.  And please, don’t leave your pets in the car!

Did you know Riverside has Cool Centers for the public to use when an excessive heat warning is issued, like today’s?   What is a Cool Center?  It’s a place where “vulnerable individuals” such as the elderly, disabled and anyone who needs relief from the heat can go to cool off.  They are located at libraries, senior centers, community centers and parks.

Just announced this week – Operation Splash! will provide free swim lessons and pool passes for children of low income households.  Check your local park for details.

Back from May-He-Co

We just returned from a few sunny days in Puerto Nuevo, Mexico.  The weather was wonderful, the lobster delish and a new Frieda Kahlo picture and leather purse are mine. Thank you to Sam and AJ for keeping an eye on our pup and the pad.  It’s wonderful to be able to take a mini vacay without developing many gray hairs worrying about your pup and your stuff.

Check this out.  You know all of those Riverside Renaissance signs that have been popping up all over our fine city, marking future locations of improvements and projects?  Riverside Renaissance has their own web site (click on that link so you won’t have to spell check a zillion times like I did ((or maybe you are not spelling challenged as I am))).  It’s actually a pretty well laid out site, not what you’d expect from a *shudder* government public works site.  Their mission statement is “Giving a new qualiy of life to a historic city poised for the future”.   It lists their projects in the following categories: parks, public safety, arts & culture, public utilities, airport and public works.  The website debuted in December 2007, but I didn’t notice it until the January Riverside Monthly newsletter.  Hope they keep up with it.  And when the hell is the Carlson Dog Park going to be done?  Ruby is fiending for a walk.  Well, what do you know?  It’s on the site and scheduled to be done in 2008.
