Killarneys and Ooka on a Thursday Night
A select few of my co-workers and I decided to hit up Happy Hour after work today. We chose Killarney’s because of the fun atmosphere but were ultimately disappointed with the happy hour menu. There is not too much to select from, just a dollar off beers and selected apps. Happy hour ended at 6:30 so I had 15 minutes to buy at a discount. We did Jager Bombs, Kamikazes and various martinis, all at about $7 a drink. There was a dj at 9:00, playing top 40 and 80’s. Our waitress was Shyla and did a great job remembering our orders and putting up with a bit of sexual harassment from the boys. Let me say hello to The Hugmeister, Dirt Devil, Guzzle and Kami’s Lover. Sounds like a stable of horses. Knock on wood, y’all.
We moved on to Ooka, where we had the honor to slip in late and drink Saki Bombs and a reddish, absolutely delicious drink. Mmm. I’m not sure what it was called, but I’d have it again for sure. Thank you Vanessa and Gilbert. My next mission is to hit Ooka’s happy hour and see what they have for our drinking/eating pleasure.
Happy Hour: El Torito at the Plaza
The details: happy hour is from 4 – 8 and includes a generous selection of appetizers including chicken flautas (and fries) for $3.49; boneless buffalo chicken wings for $3.99. $3 wells, $3 domestic drafts and $3.49 house margaritas. Can’t beat that with a stick.
The atmosphere is swell. Much nicer than the dark, cavernous, karaoke crowdedness of the Park Sierra Torito. The only crappy thing – the music is so STAR 98.7. Natalie Merchant is on as I type. However, the people are nice, the bartenders cute and drinks strong.
A definite plus for this joint is the longer happy hour. We were racing to Yard House for drinks but why rush from downtown to the mall area when you could drink cheaper here?
New drink: tequila and pineapple. Supposedly pretty good and counts as a well drink.
CONFIRMED
Dave & Busters in Ontario: Sad Hour For All
Due to operating a disorderly house, thirsty patrons will have to go elsewhere to booze it up, fight and play House of the Dead. Since earlier this month, Dave & Busters has not been able to sell any alcohol at all and will not be able to for 25 days. It was either that or close completely for 10 days. A recent visit had nothing but kids and Need for Speed, but no fighting or public drunkeness. The good is news is that they are taking this opportunity to remodel the bar for your drinking enjoyment. Normally, their happy hour is 10 – close Sunday through Thursday and 4:30 -7 Monday through Friday, with 1/2 off well drinks and some apps and a $1 off beer. But wait until March 4th, when the liquor license suspension is done.
Until then, Gameworks is down the street. And there’s always the Yard House, which has the best happy hour.
