Local News: CHP Officer Shoots Man with Gun

leave a comment »

A few of us were a little later to work than usual this morning, because University near Iowa was closed.  An investigation into the shooting of a suspect with a gun by CHP officers kept it closed for most of the morning.  Part of the University Village parking lot was also closed as Riverside PD officers investigated University Avenue and behind the Denny’s.  University Village is a favorite lunch location for my office, especially Juice It Up, and occasionally that Denny’s.  And another unusual thing – one year ago in August another officer involved shooting occurred behind the same Denny’s.

Also very close to work, a tragic industrial accident occurred at a business located on La Cadena.  A man was crushed while working on a fire truck.

Very weird day.

Freeway Closures: None

leave a comment »

We just got back from Orange County and took the 91 back with no slowing or incidents.  It seemed so unreal that I checked the CHP traffic incident page and the Caltrans daily closure report for the area and there was absolutely nothing listed for this area tonight.  Wow.

What is the alternate route if the I-15 south of the Nevada border is closed?  Caltrans says:

IS CLOSED FROM 14.6 MI SOUTH TO 12.4 MI SOUTH OF THE NEVADA STATE LINE
(SAN BERNARDINO CO) FROM 0800 HRS TO 1000 HRS TUESDAY THRU WEDNESDAY THRU
7/2/08 – DUE TO BLASTING – MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

Sigalert.com has a new beta site available to test.  It looks better than the current site, but the PE linked beta version has Moreno Valley and the regular beta version has Morena Valley.

I don’t know why, but I am compelled to check traffic whenever I hop on the freeway, even if it is just to go a few miles.  Aside from having a regular GPS unit in my car, Google Maps Mobile is the way to go.  Especially on a Blackberry.

Avoid the EB 91 and Hallmark Beef: Update

with one comment

I was enjoying chicken, pizza, salad and beer with a friend when we saw on Fox 11 that the 91 EB at Madison was all fu**Ked up. From what we understood, a Lincoln Towncar was driving west bound on the east bound 91 and collided with five cars, causing two fatalities. According to the CHP site, it turned out to be three fatalities. As of 11:30 pm, there is still a sig alert and all east bound lanes are closed and the west bound carpool lane as well, while the accident is being investigated. Be careful out there!

Meanwhile, back at the farm, the Chino Beef Furor continues on. The beef in question was recalled and San Bernardino City Unified School district sent theirs to the landfill immediately. The sad thing is that this has been going on for a decade or more, with numerous substantiated violations and inhumane treatment. So sad.

Update: The names of those involved in the accident on the 91 were listed in the paper.  So tragic.
