Happy Labor Day
We did absolutely NO Labor today. Except for the effort it took to make dinner. Here it is:

There is also a very happy dog somewhere in our house. She got two bones to chew on and some scraps. Lucky!
Concert For Heroes: Thursday, July 3rd
The annual Concert for Heroes is this Thursday night at the Riverside National Cemetery. The Riverside County Philharmonic will perform at 8 pm in the amphitheater, preceded by other performances at 7:15 pm. Admission is free and everyone is welcome to come hear the traditional patriotic music and a concert tribute to George M. Cohan. Great way to kick off a patriotic weekend.
Happy Cinco De Mayo
Today is Cinco De Mayo, a non-obligatory but extremely fun holiday for my people. I made homemade tacos and rice for dinner on Sunday as part of an early celebration and so that I could go out and celebrate Monday night also. Might as well enjoy a couple days worth of fun.
What’s going on?
If you want to make a healthy CDM meal, unlike mine which was abounding with fat and deliciousness, increase the vegetable content and try reduced fat cheese. Otherwise, try CDM recipes from the Food Network, especially that Michelada or Margarita recipe.
There were a couple of things on the weekend, a parade and celebration at Villegas Park and a car show and celebration in Corona. I hope everyone had a fun time at those events. There were just too many things going on this very weekend to enjoy them all.
Lake Alice is celebrating Cinco De Mayo with Superbad and drink specials. So is El Torito @ The Plaza and Park Sierra. X103.9 is celebrating Drinko De Mayo at Stingers in San Bernardino (get a DD for that one!) and 99.1 KGGI will be at RockNLounge in Redlands. If you know of anything else going on, leave a comment! Be safe and no drinking and driving!
Earth Day Night
The Western Municipal Water District is celebrating Earth Day at night. From 4 – 8 pm at the corner of Mission Grove and Allesandro (you can stop at the Cantina for a beer before or after), they are having an Earth Day Night Celebration. Check it out.
Happy Birthday Johnny
Happy birthday Johnny Cash! If you didn’t already visit the exhibit and festivities at the Fender Museum last weekend, you can still catch the exhibit of pictures and mementos called “Cash An American Icon” on loan to the museum by Bill Miller. Don’t miss it.
Countdown to the Oscars: 6 more days
Still no invite to a faboo Oscar party but there are still 6 days left. The 80th Annual Academy Awards ceremony will be held this Sunday, February 24th. I’m tempted, sooo tempted, to throw something together last minute and if I were, I’d be sure to consult the Oscar Party ideas on evite.com.
In the meantime, sample this Oscar Cocktail:
Oscar Cocktail (serves 1)
• 1 oz. gin
• 1 oz. vodka
• 3/4 oz. cherry brandy
• 1 dash grenadine syrup
• 1 oz. pineapple juice
• 1 oz. orange soda
• orange wedges and maraschino cherry, for garnishFill a brandy snifter with ice, then add all liquid ingredients. Stir, then garnish with an orange wedge and a maraschino cherry.
What do you think of Jon Stewart as the host? I think he’s cute and witty enough to pull it off for sure. Thank God the writers strike is over.
