Stuff To Do This Weekend: 2.22 – 2.24
Friday, 2.22
- Celebrate the birthday of Johnny Cash this weekend at the Fender Museum in Corona and check out the exhibit “Cash An American Icon”. Happy Birthday Johnny!
- Yee haw it’s a big race weekend at the California Speedway in Fontana. So big, that the Fontana PD are advising you to stay away unless you’re going to the races. With 80,000 spectators clogging up the already busy 15 and 210 freeways, it’s probably the best free advice you can expect to get all weekend. This event includes the Auto Club 500, SB Co. 200 and the Stater Brothers 300 and goes all weekend long. What’s the big deal about racing and NASCAR? Check out NASCAR 101 so you know exactly what you’re seeing from the Party Zone.
- The Robert Fumagalli: Cuba Va exhibit at UCR/California Museum of Photography continues until April 5th, but this seems like a great weekend to go considering the news of Fidel Castro’s retirement this week.
- The Showcase Theater in Corona has The Meteors, The Kat Killers, Johnny Dahmer, Hypnoraygun and Hot Rod Nightmare, beginning at 5:00 pm and costing you no more than 14.00 and a possible mosh related injury.
- DJ Jason Soto at Back to the Grind, 9:00 pm.
- Superbad at Lake Alice.
- Daniel Bernard Roumain and DJ Scientific at the UCR Theater. The violin and turntable come together, sounds like one of the best bets for Friday night.
Saturday, 2.23
- Can’t miss this one! Miss Carolina Moon at her debut performance in Kitten De Ville’s Burlesque Revue at Back to the Grind, 9:00 pm for only $15.00. Be there early or you’re not going to get a ticket.
- Sin City at the Hudson Theater in San Bernardino. Not in Riverside, but close enough. I actually saw a flyer on my lawn and almost drooled. The line up includes trance, house, drum & bass and looks like it could be much fun. Ron D Core will be there. I haven’t seen him in ages.
- Stormcrow and others at the Showcase Theater in Corona. Can’t beat the $14 dollar price.
- Soul of the River and The Generation at Faces on Spruce Street. I’ve never been there, never heard either band but it’s in Riverside and its $5. From the Inland Arts site, it looks like it could be good.
- Heat Music Festival at UCR, with Mos Def, 311 and more.
- Power and Soul at Lake Alice
- This is WAYYYY out of Riverside but The Blasters(!!!!!!) and Three Bad Jacks are playing at Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. Worth the drive. Listening to The Blasters right now!
- The Relentless Brothers feat. Hellbound Eddies at Angel’s Sports Bar in Corona.
- Donald Wexler, renowned architect, will speak at the Palm Springs Library in celebration of Modernism Week. It’s free but seating is limited. If you’re out in PS for Modernism Week, then be there. He’s the man to see.
So much to do on Saturday!
Sunday, 2.24
- Atonement: Sculptures and Constructions is an art exhibit at La Sierra University that goes until March 11th, but the opening reception is Sunday at 6:00 pm.
- The Oscars! You can start watching the red carpet and Ryan Seacrest on E! sometime in the morning, no actually around noon but jeez, several hours before the ceremonies begin. The actual show begins at 5:30pm on ABC and will be hosted by Jon Stewart for the second year in a row.
Have a great weekend!
