Fox Theater Renovation Began 12.5.07
The rear wall of the Fox Theater in Riverside was demolished this morning to kick off the demolishing and renovating of the grand old Fox. “Gone With the Wind” was shown there in ’39, according to the Cinema Treasures write up of the Fox Theater. The comments and posts from that page are a walk through its history. I would have loved to have attended the pre-restoration celebration held back in May and take a peek at how it used to look. But lucky me, it’s going to look exactly like it looked when it first opened in 1929, so I won’t miss a thing. It’s supposed to reopen in December 2008. I’ll be there!

Buy, rent, or go to the library and borrow the GREAT documentary “The Making of a Legend: GWTW” — about the making of ‘Gone With The Wind’. You will see the segment regarding the Surprise Preview of the movie to an unsuspecting public at the Riverside Fox when they actually showed up to see a different movie.
And the surviving eyewitness who was a kid in the audience at the time.
